The Chantels were an American girl group from the 1950s and 1960s who are known for their doo-wop and R&B style of music. The original members of the group consisted of Arlene Smith, Sonia Goring, Jackie Landry Jackson, Lois Harris, and Rene Minus. They were one of the first African-American girl groups to reach national success and were known for their smooth harmonies and elegant style. The Chantels' most popular songs were "Maybe," "He's Gone," and "Look in My Eyes." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 and their influence can be heard in many contemporary girl groups today.
